Modding your Motorola V325i

Firmware Notes

To check which version you have... On the phone.... Menu -> Setting & Tools -> System -> Device Info -> Other Info -> S/W Version

  • MLNBT1_01.07.00R

Initial Verizon release version.

  • MLNBT1_01_.0F.00R

Firmware upgrade, released May 2008.

  • Non-Verizon firmware

The V325i is exclusively a Verizon phone. Although the V323i is supposedly identical, cross-flashing does not work.

Secret Menu

To enter the secret menu mode flip open phone and quickly enter:

-clr-073887* (Aka -clr-0setup*)

then enter the phone security code (000000 by default)

Field Test mode

1) Quickly enter from the main screen:

##33284 (aka ##DEBUG)

You'll notice that the 4 won't display.

2) Hit the <END CALL> key to return to the main screen.

3) Quickly enter <CLR> and then the left soft key. This will display FTS. Hitting <CLR> <left softkey> again will return to the main screen.

4) enter ##33284 quickly again from the main screen to deactivate FTS mode. Again you're successful if the 4 does not display.

296a_0005 ERI banner

- record 5 is the main Verizon Wireless banner
- other records include No Service, Roaming, Extended Network, etc.
- offset 0003=banner length (in hex)(10 for Verizon Wireless)
- the maximum banner length that will fit on the screen is 17 characters, or hex 11.
- a null bit (hex 00) is treated as the end of the banner and everything after it is ignored.
- If a space between words is desired, a space (hex 20) must be used.

Thanks to null1281 for this great post: I'd like to point out to all you people doing this seem edit that there is one thing to remember, the byte before the V in Verizon Wireless for example, is the length in HEX of the banner in that record. For example Verizon Wireless, including the space is 16 bytes long, and the byte before Verizon Wireless is "10" which is the number 16 in HEX. So if you wanted to say change your banner to "Yankees Suck" then change the Byte before the Y to "0C" which is Hex for 12 which is the length of the string Yankees suck. I suck at explaining things but there ya go. And this is why changing the byte before the V causes problems, because when you replace that byte with a letter it is being read as a very large decimal, which creates a banner that exceeds the width of the screen of the phone and thus causes it to go nuts.

Example: T.r.o.p.i.c.a.l..(where . represents hex 00, a null bit)

Arcconfig.ini edits

Picture, Video, and Audio settings are stored in arcconfig.ini. It is found in \brew\mod\arcmedia. Using bitpim, file system, save the file to your computer. Remember to keep a backup copy!

Open the file with notepad or whatever. Edit it as txt.

When you're done editing, in bitpim, right-click the file and select overwrite.

Pix settings: add *.ran:image/ran; to the three 'filters' lines.

Flix settings: tried changing media volume but since no audio pays on videos this had no effect.

Audio settings: add *.mp3:audio/mp3;*.mp_:audio/mp3; to first three 'filters' lines. This lets more sounds show up.

format=0 - much bigger audio file recorded - higher quality? Also tried other numbers here but was unable to figure out what the difference was.

Max Duration=180: Maximum sound recording length, in seconds. 3 minute maximum length by default. Can be increased substantially.

BurstEnable=0 when changed to =1, under camera\options\mode, burst mode is available. Takes 5 pictures in rapid succession and saves them automatically.

VidDuration=15: Maximum video recording length, in seconds. 15 second maximum length by default. Can be increased substantially. If you change this, don't change record time in in the phone's menu.

CamRecEnable=1 (default 0) FlixEnable=1 (default 0)

This allows recording and playback of videos. To enter camcorder mode, hold down the button to select it (OK or left soft key, depending on where you are in the menu) for two seconds. Then quickly hit OK-Left-OK-right-Clear.
