T-Mobile Conditional Call Forwarding

Conditional call forwarding is an underutilized and very useful service that is available to all postpaid monthly billed subscribers. It's most useful if you'll be in a place with no reception but a landline phone, and can be useful to divert received cell calls to a landline phone to avoid airtime minutes.

Your account has a "bucket" of 500 forwarding/diverting minutes. All accounts have unconditional and conditional forwarding included in their account features. Conditional call forwarding is actually more useful than unconditional call forwarding (it's needed to implement the call going to voicemail when you don't answer your phone or your phone is turned off or out of signal range).

Conditional call forwarding can be made to simulate unconditional call forwarding by forwarding on unreachable (or all conditional types) and then turning off your mobile phone (which makes it unreachable). This is useful for instance, if your office building doesn't have mobile phone service (no signal in the building). You can forward on unreachable before entering the building and then turn off your phone. On leaving, you can turn on the phone and return the forwarding back to voicemail. Set these codes up as 1 button quick dial numbers so you can activate them easily.

There are 3 types of conditional call forwarding (called call diversion in British English). The feature codes for these and other GSM features can be found in the wiki under "T-Mobile Tips and Tricks GSM Service Codes." An example page with the codes is: [1].

  • no answer
  • unreachable
  • busy

You can also set all three types of conditional forwarding at once by keying the sequence **004*+[Country Code/area code/number]* e.g. **004*+13115552368#

The above URL provides most details, but tersely. For some reason this URL is missing "all conditional types activate & register number," but that code is listed below.

Before changing any values, you should verify what they're set to first (write it down), so rather than deactivating it, you can set it back the way it was. Most likely, the number is a T-Mobile voicemail number. Since it's possible that your voicemail box only works from some numbers (not my experience, but it's possible), it's probably best that you restore it to the original number.

To check the forwarding numbers, type on your phone keypad or enter it into a speed-dial number):

  • *#61# [SEND] (forward on no answer)
  • *#62# [SEND] (forward on unreachable)
  • *#67# [SEND] (forward on busy)

Most likely, these will all be the same number.

To change the call forwarding number

  • **004*+country_code/phone_number# [SEND] (all conditional call forwarding) e.g. **004*+13115552368#
  • **61*+country_code/phone_number# [SEND[ (forward on no answer) e.g. **61*+13115552368#
  • **62*+country_code/phone_number# [SEND] (forward on unreachable) e.g. **62*+13115552368#
  • **67*phone_number# [SEND] (forward on busy) e.g. **67*+13115552368#

For instance,

  • *004*+13036909999# [SEND]

Changes all conditional call forwarding to one of T-Mobile's voicemail numbers.

To change it back to T-Mobile's voicemail number (805-637-7243), use the same code as above.
