Any time you do a hard reset Activesync sees your device as being different, even if you have reused the same device name, and it asks you to start a new partnership. If you want to reuse the same name it won't allow it. Here is a simple little trick that allows you to reuse your device name on a new Pocket PC or one you have just reset. It also makes it easy to transfer all your files in your My Document or "sync" folder to the new device.
In Activesync on your desktop go to file/delete partnership, and delete your existing partnership. If you have more than one, be sure you have the right one showing. When you delete the partnership you will be asked if you want to delete the "sync" folder. Say NO. This will save all the data in that folder. Now connect your new device. Be sure you have it renamed to the name you want to reuse. When asked, choose a new partnership and it will connect. Then choose your sync options, Inbox, files, calendar, contacts, and so on. It will then sync to your Outlook, and your existing sync folder, and you should be go to go.
