All recent phones include the VoIP client's SIP stack, but it is only used for the Video Sharing feature in phones not listed as supported.

Configuration and Usage

S60 Version 3 Feature Pack 1

S60 Version 3 Feature Pack 2

Prerequisites

Download and install SIP VoIP Settings 3.x.

Have your VoIP credentials and server settings at hand, including username, password, and server. If your provider supplies a realm setting, take note of it also.

Setup

  1. Navigate to Ctrl. panel > Net settings
  2. Select Advanced VoIP Settings
  3. Select SIP settings
  4. Press Options > New SIP profile > Use default profile
  5. Select Profile name and enter the name of your provider
  6. Scroll to Public user name and enter your SIP address (usually number@provider)
  7. Scroll to Proxy server and select it
  8. Fill in your provider's proxy server address, user name, and password (and realm, if supplied)
  9. Press back
  10. Scroll to registrar server and select it
  11. Enter the address of your provider's registrar server, if supplied. If not, enter the proxy server address in this field.
  12. Press back twice
  13. Select Create new service
  14. Select the SIP profile you just created

Now that you see "Activate service" your VoIP is configured. To connect, you can either select "activate service," which will create a new access point, or you can do the following if you have the WLAN plugin enabled on your active standby screen.

  1. Go to active standby and select the WLAN scanning plugin.
  2. Once a network is connected, select the plugin again and select Enable 'provider'

If enabling fails, try changing the realm setting to your provider's domain name or 'asterisk'. Another thing to try is forcing the protocol setting to UDP for both the proxy server and the registrar server.

Usage

Once properly configured, you can enable and disable the service either using the WLAN applet on your active standby screen or the provider name tab in the Contacts application.
