Seem Editing, Seem
SEEM is actually an acronym - Serially Electrically Erasable Memory (2nd revision of the P2K specification, August 1999). SEEM was a new electronic component which required no back-up power and replaced the earlier FLEX, which had been stored side-by-side with the program code in a section of the Flash.
This refers to the basic control function of a Flex on a phone. Seems control what features are activated and are deactivated. XLR8 has put together a seem map and a good guide to basic seem editing at http://xlr8.us/hofo/. Seem editing can also be done on a phone by phone basis here in the wiki
Flash
This is the basic software the phone needs to control its hardware. Generally, when you update a flash, you will not update the flex. Things that may improve by updating a flash file would be all hardware based, like camera quality, reception strength, etc. A flash can be a .shx or a .vf1. SHX's are PST files, and VF1's are for MSS
Flex
The flex on a motorola phone contains all the files you can access via p2k manager and all the seems. Updating a flex will allow you to access new features (as will seem editing) gain new ringtones, get new wallpapers, remove company branding, etc. There are very few provider-branded flexes available though, so if your worried about this, it's a good idea to back up all the seems and files so you can revert back if you need to.
Triplets, VXXX
Refers to the Triplets line of phones, meaning the phones that run off the triplets firmware. V300, V400, V500, V600 and their variations. New phones like the V551, V620 and the likes do NOT run off the triplets platform, but are sometimes tossed in the "Vxxx" family for their similarities in flexes.
