There are no sw/reg hacks -- it is all straight forward and detailed on pages 3-28 through 3-39. Most of the setup is on your computer since the wireless modem application is a part of the m500 ROM.

The basic steps to set up your computer are

   1. Set up your bluetooth connection: pages 3-28
   2. Create a new virtual modem: pages 3-31 to 3-33
   3. Create a new Dial up Networking (DUN) connection: pages 3-34 to 3-39

The key points in this process are

   1. When setting up the virtual modem, use the same COM port that is identified when you set up the bluetooth serial port connection.
   2. When entering the extra initialization commands (page 3-33) on the advanced tab in the virtual modem properties dialogue box, ensure that you have replaced the "APN" part with the Access Point name specified by your carrier. I use T-Mobile and I put in "internet3.voicestream.com"

The basic steps to start the wireless modem are (from page 3-30)

   1. On the m500, from either the start menu or the M-Desk application, click on the Wireless Modem.
   2. Select Bluetooth and connect.
   3. Select your computer from the device selection screen then select the appropriate serial port and "ok."
****This is the missing piece******4. When it says "Initializing," DON'T WAIT, start your DUN on your computer by going to Start->Control panel->Network Connections->"your DUN connection"

The key points to remember when connecting are

   1. Disconnect any bluetooth connection (including activesync) between your computer and the m500 before you begin. The wireless modem app will establish the connection.
   2. If for some reason, when the wireless app is attempting to connect to your computer, you get an activesync error dialogue box about not being able to connect to the COM port, click "cancel." Don't let ActiveSync get involved.
   3. If on your computer, you get the "Error 633," try turning off bluetooth on your phone and turning it back on again before starting over to connect.
   4. If on your computer, you get the "Error 734," quit the wireless modem app on the m500, start internet explorer on the m500 and surf to any website. Quit ie and disconnect the GPRS connection and then try connecting again.

I hope this helps. FWIW, my HW configuration is as follows, M500 (ROM 0042), NEC Versa Litepad Tablet PC with a Socket Compact Flash Bluetooth card.
